Dr Brooke Dougan

BA Psych (Hons) PhD (Clin/Neuro) MAPS MCCP MCCN

Brooke is a clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist who attained her PhD in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Queensland. Brooke is passionate about working with individuals with autism spectrum conditions, including children, adolescents, adults and their families, to achieve positive change in their lives; including strengths-based enhancement of interpersonal, academic, and vocational functioning and resilency. Brooke has worked as a psychologist and neuropsychologist across a variety of settings including child, youth and adult in-patient and community Mental Health.

Brooke's clinical practice is informed by evidence-based therapeutic models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfullness. In her work at Minds and Hearts, Brooke also conducts intellectual, learning and cognitive assessments to inform educational supports and accommodations for children and adolescents. Brooke's areas of interest include cognition and learning, the understanding and management of emotions (anxiety, anger, depression, stress and adjustment difficulties), social skills training, parenting skills and strategies to manage children's sometimes difficult behaviour, and optimisation of sleep, lifestyle and other health-related behaviours. Brooke enjoys working with clients of all ages individually and in group-based therapeutic programs. She is an accredited provider of Stepping Stones Triple P Positive Parenting Program for parents of children with developmental disabilities.
