Intellectual and Learning Assessments

An Intellectual Assessment

An intellectual assessment uses a standardised test to assess different facets of a person's thinking ability or intelligence. The assessment required to assess giftedness, intellectual disability and the possibility of a learning disorder.

The results is an understanding of the person's:

* Overall intelligence quotient (IQ)

* Profile of cognitive/problem solving strengths and weaknesses, whether visual or verbal

* Speed of information processing

* Working memory abilities

An intellectual assessment involves:

* A one hour interview to gain background information to assist in interpreting test results

* Two hours of testing, either in one block, or over two sessions

* A one hour feedback session to learn the results of testing and the recommendations arising from the results

* Scoring, interpretation and report preparation by your psychologist (2 hours)

Please note that reports are paid for prior to preparation and take 2 weeks to prepare.

The costs are:

Includes:

* 1 hour initial interview ($240)

* 2 hours testing ($480)

* 1 hour feedback session ($240)

* Scoring, interpretation & report preparation ($480)

Should intellectual impairment be indicated by the test results, further testing is required to determine if the person meets diagnostic criteria for intellectual disability. This testing involves a further hour of testing with a caregiver, rather than the person themselves, and a further hour of scoring, interpretation and report preparation by your psychologist.

A Learning Assessment

A learning assessment uses standardised tests to assess a person's academic or learning ability, in addition to their intellectual ability. Learning assessments are needed to diagnose specific learning difficulties and disorders, usually within and educational setting. The result is an understanding of the person's:

* Ability inreading speed, accuracy and comprehension

* Spelling, grammar and writing abilities

* Mathematics ability

* Learning potential for schoolwork and academic work

Should learning difficulty or disability be indicated by the test results then further testing is required to determine if the person meets diagnostic criteria for a specific learning disorder. This testing involves a further two hours of testing with the person themselves, and a further two hours of scoring, interpretation and report preparation by your psychologist. Beyond this assessment it is possible to further explore specific cognitive difficulties that may be underlying the learning problems, and this possiblity would be discussed at the time.

Please note that reports are paid for prior to preparation and take 2 weeks to prepare.
