Meet Ms. Lizaan Schwartz

Lizaan gained her BA and BPsych in psychology from South Africa 2015. When Lizaan was completing her undergraduate and Honours degree in psychology between 2011 and 2015 she volunteered as a teacher assistant (Golden-Key program) at an autism-specific school in South Africa. She supported teachers and children on the spectrum from the ages of 3 to 18 years. She became the Co-Director of this program in 2013. Lizaan’s passion to work with children, adolescents, and adults on the spectrum started from her volunteering experience.

Lizaan has since moved to Brisbane in 2016 to complete her Masters degree in Autism Studies. During this time, she continued to gain experience in this field by completing a 12-month Internship at the Minds & Hearts clinic. During this time, she was supervised by Dr Michelle Garnett and Prof Tony Attwood. She has 8 years of experience working in this field. Lizaan has been working at the Minds & Hearts clinic for 3 years. Lizaan is passionately committed to work and support individuals of all ages on the autism spectrum that experience daily challenges. She realises the value of working in a team that shares the same passion for children on the spectrum. Lizaan is committed to assisting her clients to build on their strengths to reach their full potential. Lizaan has a special interest in helping girls on the spectrum to develop their social-emotional and self-understanding.

Just for fun

Describe your perfect weekend

In my perfect weekend, I spend my time with my family and friends in one of the beautiful Nature Reserves in South Africa. We travel to the different areas in the country and engage in adventurous activities like “Zip lining” and river rafting between beautiful mountain ranges. We enjoy each other’s company by trying different cultures food and wines. The memories from these perfect weekends are ones that are valuable and inspiration to create more wonderful weekends.

Can/would you like to play any instruments and why?

I would love to play the violin. I have always been interested in the classical components that the violin contributes to various orchestras. I can play the guitar but have not played in a while.

Can/would you like to learn a new language and why?

I have previously attended French classes and would like to continue learning this beautiful language over the years to come. When I was traveling through France my ability to communicate in this language have saved me from getting parking tickets.

What’s the quirkiest talent you have (or aspire to have)?

I don’t have a quirky talent at the moment but this talent might develop over the years to come.

What invention would you like to be in reality and why?

I would like to be a teleporter to travel to different countries around the world.
