Wesley Turner

I am a Co-Director at Minds & Hearts and an Honorary Fellow with the University of Queensland’s School of Psychology. I am a practising Clinical Psychologist and a Psychology Board (AHPRA) approved Clinical Supervisor.

My approach to treatment focuses on understanding how your current feelings, reactions, and behaviours are shaped by past experiences and relationships. Together, you and I can work to bring your underlying patterns and emotions to the surface, helping you to process them and to develop healthier, more fulfilling connections with yourself and others.

My clinical approach is highly experiential and psychodynamic in nature, and I am currently undergoing formal training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I am also trained in and informed by several therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy and Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.

I provide treatment, assessment, supervision, mentorship and training on neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodiverse conditions (e.g., autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, dyspraxia, tic disorders, intellectual disability), attachment disruption and complex trauma, and personality disorders.

I work with adults of all ages and adolescents from 15 years and older, and I see both individuals and couples. I also provide treatment and assessment, as well as supervision, mentorship, and training in these areas.

My PhD was on the development of a video game-based measure of gambling addiction and decision-making errors. My understanding of neurophysiology and neurocognitive processes has served me well in my work with neurodiverse clients and trauma.

While my availability to see new clients is sadly limited, I conduct and supervise diagnostic assessments, and am available for workshops, trainings, and university teaching on request.

Available for one-off sessions to provide clinical opinions on assessment, diagnosis, and therapy plans.
