Clinical Assessment
Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Assessment
At Minds & Hearts we conduct comprehensive neurodevelopmental and psychological assessments to individuals. While every psychologist will aim to complete an assessment and provide you with a collaborative clinical formulation that provides a rationale for a treatment plan, some cases require a deeper assessment that can clarify referral questions about if a client has a neurodevelopmental condition and/or some other psychological condition that can pave the way for a more comprehensive understanding for the individual and more tailored therapy plan and accommodations. Theses assessments are conducted in teams of two clinicians, typically a senior clinician who is the lead clinician who provides the initial interview and feedback session and a supporting clinician who assists with administering psychometric assessment and gathering collateral information.
The assessment process involves an initial 2-hour triage appointment (which includes 30 minute case management time for reviewing previous reports and psychometric information sent before the appointment as well as a 90-minute clinical interview with the client). For a minority of cases, the client or the lead clinician may decide at this point that the client would be best served following another avenue of support though the majority of cases continue the process with a further 2-3 appointments which involve completing tailored psychometric assessments, gathering futher collateral information and having a feedback session.A summary report is written by the clinicians that documents the reason for referral, presenting problems, observations, diagnostic conclusions, as well as individually tailored clinical formulation on the predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective factors with recommendations to support the client over the next year or more. Typically, the time taken from the initial triage appointment with a lead clinician to the feedback session is 4-5 weeks, with the final report being completed and sent to you within 4-weeks from the feedback appointment assuming there are not issues with gathering key collateral information.
Total cost of the neurodevelopmental assessment is up to $3500 (inclusive of the triage appointment and follow up appointments, feedback sessions and comprehensive report).
In rare cases, your lead clinician may feel that after the initial appointment additional assessments are required given the level of complexity of the case. If this happens the lead clinician will need to inform you of the additional number of sessions and costs required to answer your referral question and you can make an informed decision about what you would like to do.
Our assessment process at Minds & Hearts requires you to attend in-person at the clinic for all psychometric assessments regardless of which state or country you live in. Some leniency may be allowed for interstate clients for the initial appointment or feedback session at the discretion of the lead clinician. If you are travelling interstate or internationally we will do our very best to accommodate the first and second appointment to be as close in time as possible for your convenience.
